War is Always a Defeat, and Its Only Winners are Weapons Manufacturers

Pope Francis, speaking about war, said: “War is always a defeat, and its only winner is the weapons manufacturers.”

Pope Francis, leader of Catholics worldwide, issued a new call against all wars on the eve of Holocaust Remembrance Day, while referring to the horror of the mass killing of Jews and victims of the Nazis. During a speech on Wednesday, January 24 (February 4 in the Persian calendar) at the Vatican, he said: “The memory and condemnation of the horrific massacre of millions of people in the Holocaust may help everyone remember that the logic of hatred and violence can never be justified. Let us not tire of praying for peace, for an end to conflicts, the cessation of weapons, and for help for the suffering people.”

The Holocaust (meaning total burning in Greek) refers to the mass killing and genocide of nearly six million Jews based on race, religion, and nationality during World War II by Nazi Germany in the Nazi death camps.

Pope Francis in his remarks alluded to the war between Israel and Hamas and the bombing of civilians in Ukraine, calling this country a martyr.

The leader of Catholics worldwide, while repeating his previous statements, said: “War is always a defeat, and its only winner is the weapons manufacturers.”
