Suicide Attempt by Teenage Girl in Khorramshahr

On Wednesday, November 12, a 14-year-old girl in Khorramshahr attempted to jump from a bridge in an apparent suicide attempt, but police officers from the local police station prevented her from doing so. The share of Iranian teenagers in annual suicides has been reported at over 7 percent by the Legal Medicine Organization.
According to Hrana news agency, citing RNA, on Wednesday, November 12, 1400 (November 3, 2021), the police commander of Khorramshahr announced the prevention of a suicide attempt by a 14-year-old girl by officers from Police Station 11 of the city.
Based on the report, following a phone call to the police center stating that a 14-year-old girl intended to jump from the new Khorramshahr bridge, police officers from Khorramshahr Police Station were immediately dispatched to the scene.
The officers got within one step of the 14-year-old girl and in a quick action, they grabbed the teenage girl and prevented her actions. After talking with her, the teenage girl was transferred to the police station’s counseling department.
In the counseling department, it became clear that the girl had intended to commit suicide due to family problems. Following counseling, she was handed over to the Department of Social Welfare.
Some time ago, a 16-year-old girl who was a victim of child marriage in Khorramshahr also committed suicide by hanging and lost her life.
The share of Iranian teenagers in annual suicides has been reported at over 7 percent by the Legal Medicine Organization.
